## Challenge

Immunocompromised patients with COVID-19 face higher risks of progression and mortality, but the real-world effectiveness of early remdesivir initiation in this vulnerable subgroup had not been estimated using causal methods.

## Solution

Target RWE researchers applied rigorous causal methods to estimate the effectiveness of early remdesivir initiation in immunocompromised patients hospitalized with COVID-19, addressing time-varying confounding using the clone-censor-weight framework.

## Impact

Demonstrating real-world effectiveness of early remdesivir in immunocompromised COVID-19 patients provides Gilead with targeted post-authorization evidence for this high-priority subgroup.
