In-Hospital Treatment Patterns Among Patients Hospitalized with COVID-19 in the United States

Authors: M. Alan Brookhart, PhDNuvan Rathnayaka

Challenge

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, treatment patterns for hospitalized patients evolved rapidly and inconsistently across US hospitals, but a real-world characterization of in-hospital treatment utilization across a large nationally representative hospital network was lacking.

Solution

Target RWE researchers analyzed hospital chargemaster data to describe in-hospital treatment patterns among COVID-19 patients across US hospitals, including antiviral, corticosteroid, and supportive care utilization over time.

Impact

Providing one of the earliest real-world characterizations of COVID-19 in-hospital treatment patterns contributed critical evidence to the clinical community's rapidly evolving understanding of COVID-19 management.
